Reflect: rough cut comparison

Front page:

 

Firstly, after comparing my rough cut I need to add more sell lines and images to my front page because at the moment my page is really sparse. To achieve adding more sell lines I need to move my main sell line more towards the centre creating space for more text. Also, on the professional's everything seems to be larger so I will need to do the same. When considering the text to image ratio the professionals show 15 images to 8 sell lines whereas I have 6 images to 6 sell lines this tells me I need more images for my page again helping to eliminate the emptiness.

In general the professional magazine uses 3 columns and a row below them to organise the text and images on the page I have also done this so I don't think I need to make any amendments there. However where the professional magazine has inserted a quote I have done the same but it has no impact so I will need to make the text bigger and in bold so it stands out like the professional's. Other than the main image I think the rest need to be a little bigger as when comparing the to right corner of the page I can see the professional's is bigger also by doing so I can add another image. Also, I'm going to add a sky line because after looking at 'Top of the Pops' I think it will make my magazine look more professional. Lastly, I want to change the pink because mine looks too red into a more girlish pink like the professional's as this will create a better effect. 

When comparing my main image I see my model looks cold as her skin is very pale so I will need to edit it to warm her skin so making my page look warmer except that I like my image. On the other hand the other images like the sun image I think needs to be taken again as the model's pose doesn't dominate the space. The background around her as well needs to change as it's too blue and doesn't compliment her. The other images I don't think need to change they could do with a little lightening but I think they are okay.

Finally, the professional front page above I took inspiration of the main sell line, the shopping sell line and the poster sell line as I thought they looked fun and interesting to look at on the page. Now I need to add more of my creativity on the page to fill the dead space.

• Fill dead space with images and sell lines
• Enlarge the main sell line
• Change the image of the model in the sun
• Change the background of the sun image
• Warm the skin of my main model
• Add a sky line
• Change the pink

Contents page:

To begin, the text to image ratio on the professional's is roughly even whereas mine has more image than text this then results in alot of dead space. To overcome this I will therefore need to add more onto the page.To do this I will need to make my mast head smaller like professional's so I can have more space where I will then need to write a small article about the main image.  Also, the variety of fonts used in the text is much larger than mine so I will need to change this and use more fonts. Lastly, I need to add more articles into my content because the professional's have 62 pages where as I have 11 which isn't what an average magazine has in pages. 

I am not happy with the quality in all my images so they will need to be re-taken as well as that after looking at the professional's I see most of the images used are set in the world and not in a studio so I will need to make my models be in a surrounding. 

The professional magazine above is what I took inspiration of for my content. I used the borders, image layout and main title for my magazine because I liked the structure. However now I need to incorporate an article into the page and change my existing text size.

Overall:

• Add more text
• Increase number of pages
• Change the images
• Make the mast head smaller and put the main title into one line

Double page spread:

When comparing my rough cut I have used columns however I can see I need to add more text to the right of the page as there is alot of dead space at the moment. Also, on the professional quote insert the main title makes an impact where mine does not so I will need to change it and make the text bigger and bold. I have attempted a drop cap however I don't think it was very successful as it's too small so I'll need to make it bigger so to draw the eye.

I think the images I have used are good for the page and don't need to be changed as they're similar to the professional's. 

The professional double page spread above I used for inspiration in the layout of the page as I think it's easy to read. My creativity came from my article writing.

Overall:

• I need to extend my article so to take up dead space
• Align my text so it's a chunck instead of a paragraph
